Aadil Palkhivala, The Gracious Yoga Master, March 18, 2014

Aadil shares how, with the help of Yoga and his world renowned teacher BKS Iyengar, his parents were able to conceive him. He began Yoga at the age of 7 years old and at the age of 19 his teacher organized for him a world wide teaching tour. He discusses the state of Yoga in our culture and how it has lost the essence of true Yoga.“Yoga is spread so wide it is deep no more.” Aadil states that “Yoga in its essence is the connection between you and your own spirit.”

He then explains that asana or the physical practice of Yoga can help us to become more flexible, releasing the tension and effects of stress. Aadil and his wife Savitri are the co-founders of Purna Yoga which means complete. “It’s also about your thoughts, feelings, the environment in which you live, what are your relationships like, what is your relationship with yourself, do you love yourself.” Aadil then elaborates on the three fundamental questions that we should all ask ourselves on a regular basis. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? Why am I here is defined as Dharma. Aadil explains that when we are not living your Dharma we will experience unhappiness and pain but “our lives are meant to be continuously joyous so long as we are constantly in the state of growth and progress.”

Aadil translates the Vedic principle Artha as means. It is imperative that we have the means to do what you want in the world. “It is a very powerful concept has been hidden from the people for a long time because when people are wealthy we are not controllable.” “People should be free and independent.”

Aadil claims that illness comes to us when we move away from our inner happiness, our inner bliss, our inner smile. Besides practicing Purna Yoga Aadil suggests that we take care of what goes into our bodies and what comes out in order to maintain optimal health. Eat organic food and Sunrider supplements, a concentrated healthy food, treat others with respect, have good positive thoughts. What to avoid: GMO’s, anything artificial, TV, news, dark clothes, foul language, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and sugar.
